Emery JUST started as me going "Man I wanna RP a sexy shapeshifter" but things are spiraling slightly out of control so here's some more character notes, I guess???
- Emery's human father is named Matthew Dale and he has some sort of well paid but boring job. Like, sales management or whatever. He has no biological relation to Emery and is aware of this, but does care about Emery. However, their priorities and personalities are pretty different, and their relationship as a whole is awkward. He has no idea that Emery is half-fae and Emery wants to keep Matthew uninvolved and unaware of that stuff.
- Emery's mother is named Wendy Dale, neé Hayward, and she's had a sort of chaotic life. Definitely was involved in Fae Stuff before she married Matthew, and probably fell in love with/married him initially because she was desperate for some stability. I think her family line's always been kind of magically-inclined and have probably been involved with the fair folk for generations, but Wendy is entirely human, ftr. Kind of a fuck-up, but Emery's very protective of her.
- Wendy and Matthew's marriage turned tumultuous like a few months in; lots of fighting and making up and then fighting again. Wendy was really afraid Matthew might leave her eventually if they didn't have a kid, so when they had trouble conceiving she got desperate enough to go to Emery's biological father. SPOILERS: Having a baby did not help with Wendy and Matthew's marital problems, especially as Emery got older and turned out to have little resemblance to Matthew.
- For basically as far back as Emery can remember, they've been serving or trying-to-serve as mediator between Matthew and Wendy and a shoulder to cry on after fights, and yes this is a major contributor to Emery's emotional issues.
- Emery's biological father is referred to as the Field Lord, which is his title, not his actual name. His surname is Aestivus and idk his first name yet, if he even has one. He's basically minor nobility, like the sidhe equivalent of a baron or a viscount or whatever. He's cold and selfish by nature, but has a sort of twisted, possessive love for Wendy. Basically, he's terrible.
- The Field Lord's deal with Wendy was that she'd have sixteen years with Emery because sixteen is the age when the Fae consider a person to be an adult, similar to how most places regard turning eighteen.
- The Field Lord isn't remotely attached to Emery and basically considers them a consolation prize until when/if he can get his hands on Wendy.
- The Fae Realm is basically a mirror version of the human world. Time passes at the same rate there as it does in the human realm, with the small quirk that day and night are reversed- so where it's night in the human realm it's day in the fae realm's equivalent location, and vice-versa.
- Emery has no siblings that they're aware of? Probably has some half-siblings thanks to the Field Lord, though.
- Emery's probably sterile although much like the limits of their shapeshifting abilities this is something I'm willing to discard for the sake of a fun scenario. But yeah, default assumption is can't get pregnant or get anyone else pregnant.
- You know how cats' eyes will reflect light such that, in dark areas, their eyes appear to glow? Emery's eyes also do that.
- Emery's hobby is reading! He's not picky about the genre but he especially likes science fiction, mystery, and certain flavors of fantasy.
- In a daemon AU, Emery's daemon would have taken an unusually long time to settle, but around when he was seventeen it finally settled into the form of an Erigone atra, a species of dwarf spider/money spider. The spider is named Ivory and it is very small, less than three millimetres in length, and difficult to spot- which can be very unsettling to people who don't know that Emery's daemon is simply too small to be easily seen, rather than actually absent. Ivory is usually hiding behind Emery's ear, where it frequently murmurs comments that only Emery can hear.
